Beginning Guitar - Level 1: Lesson 4

Lesson 4 - How To Tune Your Guitar

  • Guitar Tuning: When playing a stringed instrument they oftentimes go out of tune. Our tuner help gets them in the tune that we desire. For this class, we will stick with standard EADGBE tuning.

  • Using A Physical Tuner

    • Physical Tuners can be great to have because they are easily clipped onto the head of the guitar and measure the pitch of the strings by low-level vibrations.

  • Using a Piano

    • If you do not have a tuner nearby but you have a piano, here is how you can tune your guitar to the piano. Simply play the note on the piano matching the string on the guitar, and turn the tuning nobb until the pitch matches.

  • Using Your Guitar

    • There is a fifth-string tuning trick that can help your guitar at least be in tune with itself if you don't have a tuner or another instrument to tune it with.

    • Play notes on the lowest string to match the note on the next highest string open.

    • Match pitch with the string that seems to be closest to being on key, or just start with your low E string and the A string.

  • These are just a few ways you can tune your guitar. I would recommend you download a guitar tuning app on your phone, or get a tuner from amazon or your local guitar store. Happy tuning.
